"What rabbit meat?" Justin said aloud. He could not believe what he just read. Mother laughed. "You look shocked, Justin. But it's true. We will buy rabbit meat and I will cook it for dinner," Mother gently said. "Oh, the poor furry bunny," Justin said softly, looking miserable.
"Justin, did you know that rabbits are farm animals? They live in burrows that they dug. They eat vegetables, stalks of corn, and green herbs. And because a pair of wild rabbits can have so many kittens in one year, they can destroy the farmers' crop if they are left to increase. That's why people hunt them and they discovered the rabbit meat is good for food!"
"And the rabbits' fur is used for making hats. Is that right, Mother?" Justin asked. "Yes, Justin, that is right," Mother agreed. "Ah, so rabbits are very useful animals," Justin concluded. "Well, I wonder how its cooked meat would taste," he said. "You will see," Mother replied.
